ALGIERS- The first batch of Russia's Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V arrived Friday in the military airport of Boufarik, in Blida, while the second one of Astra-Zeneca laboratories will be received this Sunday.
This batch was received in the presence of Minister of Communication, Spokesman of the Government Ammar Belhimer, Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform Abderrahmane Benbouzid, Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry Abderrahmane Lotfi Djamel Benbahmad, Deputy Minister for Hospital Reform Ismail Mesbah as well as Russia's ambassador to Algiers and Director General of Algiers' Pasteur Institute Faouzi Derar.
On this occasion, Belhimer announced that the second batch, coming from Astra-Zeneca laboratories, will be received this Sunday.
In this regard, Health Minister Abderrahmane Benbouzid will on Saturday symbolically launch the vaccination campaign in Blida, one of the most affected provinces by this pandemic in the beginning of the health crisis.
The operation, which will concern in a first step people prone to infection and transmission, notably staff of the medical sector, the elderly or people with chronic disease, will be extended to include as from Sunday other sectors, namely Police services and Civil Protection, education and also Imams, political officials and the media body, he said, reassuring the Algerians that other batches of vaccine will be received soon to meet the national demand.
Algeria will also receive another batch of Covid-19 vaccine from China and India as well as other countries, he added.
