Sellal advocates in Washington States´ right to peaceful use of nuclear energy

WASHINGTON (United states)- Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal said Friday in Washington that stepping up nuclear security should not be a restriction to States' right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.?

"The nuclear security requirement, which concerns everybody, should not be a restriction to the States' right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy," Sellal said in an address at the fourth summit on nuclear security.

"This right is stressed in Article IV of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT)," Sellal said at a lunch discussion on domestic actions to boost national security."

The Premier calls for an exchange of expertise in nuclear security and peaceful use of atoms.

?"We deem it necessary to encourage and promote an effective international cooperation to improve nuclear safety and security, through exchanges of information, expertise and technology."

The Prime Minister said Obama's initiative on nuclear security has paved the way for a global action to improve international cooperation in the field.

Algeria, aware of the importance of the challenge in this area, has been working for global and sustainable nuclear security.
