APS - 27 April 2017

ORAN Algeria envisages exporting a part of cars produced by French carmaker Renault in Oued Tlelat plant, said Minister of Industry and Mines, Abdeslam Bouchouareb.

Following a meeting on sub-contracting agreement organized Thursday in Oran, the minister said that "we mainly produce for the domestic market, but we envisage orienting a part of this production to export. This is our objective.”

Bouchouareb welcomed that the increase of the integration rate in Oued Tlelat car plant, in Oran would help achieve the prospects of its development, including export.

Export will start when the plant’s production capacity will reach or exceed 100,000 units per year.

The integration rate in this plant, built as part of an Algerian-French partnership would be of 42% or 46% by 2019, said the minister who stressed the importance of developing a sub-contracting network to reach these goals.

Furthermore, Abdeslam Bouchouareb said that the government still encourages this mechanical industry section, by tailoring the laws with the current dynamic of the sector.

Algeria eyes a production capacity ranging between 400,000 and 500,000 cars per year by 2022.

The sub-contracting agreement meeting, co-chaired by industry and Mining Ministry and Renault Algerie was attended by 200 suppliers in the field of automotive industry, which half came from Europe and Asia.
