APS - 16 February 2017
ALGIERS-Minister of Public Works and Transport Boudjemaa Talai and Saudi Minister of Commerce and Investment Majid bin Abdullah Al-Gassabi agreed Wednesday in Algiers on considering the opening of a shipping line for the transport of goods between Algeria and Saudi Arabia, said the ministry in a communiqué.
The decision was taken after a meeting between Talai and Al-Gassabi, who is on a visit to Algeria under the 12th session of the Algerian-Saudi joint committee.
The talks focused on the means likely to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the maritime transport of goods and travellers.
Both parties welcomed the twining project, first of its kind, between the ports of Annaba and Eddamam.
Besides, both officials broached the opening of a maritime line for the transport of Algerian hajjis (pilgrims) to the two Holy Places of Islam. This idea was welcomed by the Saudi side, added the source.
They highlighted the need for exchange of experiences between both countries in several fields of maritime, air and rail transport, reported the communiqué.
The two officials also discussed various aspects of cooperation and partnership between the two countries and the means to develop them, hailing the quality of ties between Algeria and Saudi Arabia.
They underscored the need for pursuing efforts to meet future aspirations in the service of both brotherly countries' common interests, concluded the communiqué.
