President Bouteflika advocates harnessing goodwill to end excessive dependence on hydrocarbons
APS - 16 April 2017
ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Sunday called for harnessing the goodwill with a view to "ending the excessive dependency on hydrocarbons, even if they constitute a blessing for our country."
In a message on the occasion of the Day of Knowledge (Yaoum El Ilm), celebrated on 16 April, read on his behalf by Adviser Mohamed Ali Boughazi during a ceremony held in the Opera of Algiers, President Bouteflika said: "we will very much benefit by implementing the reformist vision of our prominent Sheikh Abdelhamid Ben Badis- who helped our ancestors to free Algeria-, so to harness all the goodwill in a view to ending the excessive dependency on hydrocarbons, even if they constitute a blessing for our country."
Stressing that Algeria is experiencing a difficult financial situation induced by the decline of oil prices, the head of the State urged the Algerian people to "ensure on a daily basis that the social relationships are addressed and improved, since the development unavoidably implies high stakes and challenges."
"Let us make of this Knowledge celebration day, a new departure for the achievement of our reforms in the fields of economy, governance and the management of our county’s affairs," the president concluded.
