Algeria condemns in "strongest terms" Istanbul attack

APS - 01 January 2017

ALGIERS- Algeria condemns in "the strongest terms" the terrorist attack committed on New Year eve, in the Turkish capital Istanbul, said Sunday the Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Abdelaziz Benali Cherif.

"We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist bloody attack perpetrated yesterday (Saturday) in Istanbul," the official told APS.

The attack on New Year Eve left 39 killed, including 16 foreigners.

Underlining that "this abject act once again proves that terrorism is blind and indiscriminate for the sole purpose of killing innocent lives, imposing fear, sowing desolation and undermining the security, stability and tranquility of societies and peoples," he said that "a comprehensive, prompt and coordinated international response is needed to put an end to this harmful terrorist undertaking."

"Assuring the Turkish people and government of our solidarity in those painful circumstances, we reaffirm our condemnation to terrorism in all its forms," Benali Cherif concluded.
