Algeria-UNDP: Funding of $400 000 for environmental associations

ALGIERS- The second phase of microfinance programme of World Environment Funds will allocate $400,000 to the projects initiated by the Algerian environment associations, said Thursday in Algiers the national coordinator of the programme, Rahima Chehih.
During the second phase, the programme elaborated by the UN Development Programme and executed by the United Nations Office for Project Services (Unops), will provide those associations with micro-finances for a period of 4 years as from 2017, she said during a meeting which brought together foreign ministry officials, environment associations and the representatives of the programme.
The associations will receive average funding of $35,000 each and the funding can reach $50,000 for associations proposing important an innovative projects.
However, the associations must finance 20% of their projects.
For this phase, the programme focuses landscapes, which represents a genuine opportunity to facilitate a participative environmental management in the identified territories," said Chehih.
The objective is involving the civil society and the citizens in the protection of landscapes through projects associating the preservation of biodiversity, sustainable development and social preoccupations.
