Bensalah emphasizes Algeria's efforts for democracy

DEAD SEA (Jordan)- The speaker of the Council of the Nation (upper house of Parliament) on Wednesday stressed Algeria's efforts in favour of "democracy and state of rule" in the light of the latest constitutional �amendments,

Abdelkader Bensalah, in an address at the 28th Arab Summit being held at the Dead Sea, Jordan, said Algeria has taken all necessary measures to ensure that the next legislative elections go smoothly.�

The president of the Upper House, speaking in the Arab Summit as the representative of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, said a High Independent Authority for Election Monitoring (HIISE) has been created as part of the political reforms initiated by the head of State.

Bensalah explained that the polling monitoring authority was created to ensure fair legislative elections.

He also mentioned Algeria's invitation to international observers, including Arab League representatives, to monitor the polls.�

Algeria has signed an agreement with the Arab League on observation missions to the legislative elections of May 4.
