Foreign Ministry refutes news about alleged warning issued by Algeria to Minurso
APS - 02 December 2019
ALGIERS – The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MFA) refutes the news reported by foreign media on the alleged "warning issued by the Algerian Government" to the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), said Monday the ministry’s spokesman Abdelaziz Benali-Chérif.
In response to a question from the APS "about an alleged warning issued by the Algerian Government to Minurso regarding the risk of abduction of foreigners in the Saharawi refugee camps, carried by foreign media, of which a website under French law activating in Algeria", Mr. Benali-Chérif wished at the outset to clarify that "the media supported the spread of this false and unfounded information, pouring into the manipulation and dissemination of outlandish information, with the obvious aim of harming Algeria, its people and its institutions".
He affirmed that "the so-called warning of the Algerian Government to the Minurso is all the more fanciful and untrue since the Saharawi camps of Tindouf are located in the Algerian territory and therefore, the Algerian security forces, at their head the National People’s Army, ensure the security and integrity of the national territory".
