Presidential election: campaign set to start on Sunday

ALGIERS – The electoral campaign for 12 December presidential election will officially start on Sunday for the five candidates which papers were approved by the National Independent Authority on Elections (ANIE) and confirmed by the Constitutional Council, in conformity with Article 141 of the organic law on election system.

The five candidates to the presidential election are former Chief of government and president of the Talaie el Hourriyet party Ali Benflis, former Prime Minister Abdelmadjid Tebboune, former Minister of Culture and currently interim general secretary of the National Democratic Rally party (RND) Azzedine Mihoubi, former Minister of Tourism and president of El-Bina Movement party Abdelkader Bengrina, and President of Al-Moustakbel Front party Abdelaziz Belaid.

The five candidates for the post of President have begun to unveil the major lines of their electoral platforms, while calling on voters to massively participate in December 12th election.

Independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune unveiled his electoral platform, under the theme "Engaged for change, capable to achieve it," comprising 54 commitments for the establishment of a "New Republic."

The commitments taken by Tebboune include "deep revision of the Constitution, restructuring the legal framework for elections, strengthening good governance through the separation of the business from politics and the creation of mechanisms guaranteeing the integrity of public officials."
