ALGIERS-Charaf-Eddine Amara on Thursday was elected President of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) and pledged after his victory to conduct "deep reforms" to modernize soccer in Algeria.
"It is with great pride that I accept the mission of rehabilitating national football. I will be the president of the entire soccer family. Let us leave our disputes behind us and work for the interest of football," said the new FAF president at a press conference ahead of his election for the Olympic term 2021-2025.
Amara, 56, now former chairman of the Board of SSPA CR Belouizdad, an Algerian champion team that qualified for the quarterfinals of the African Champions League, was unanimously elected by the voting members of the General Assembly (75 yes and 15 no).
"The result of the vote reflects the total support of the general assembly to our programme based on three watchwords: reforms, modernization and performance, " he said.
