Algerian sociologist Lazreg Marnia distinguished in New York

NEW YORK- Algerian academic and sociologist Lazreg Marnia has been distinguished by the Society of Foreign Consuls (SOFC) in New York for her academic works and significant contributions for the promotion of women's rights.
Lazreg Marnia, professor of sociology at Hunter College in New York, has been awarded an SOFC certificate of recognition in a ceremony, in New York, attended by the representatives of the diplomatic and consular bodies, in addition to US officials.
Author of many books of reference dealing with social classes and cultural Movements, Prof. Lazrag Marnia has also been interested, throughout her academic carrier, in women's rights issues, history of the colonial era and international development. Marnia, whose works have been translated into several languages, has been named an advisor for the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and World Bank's gender equality coordinator for Europe and Central Asia.
The Algerian Academic also organized and led several workshops on issues relating to women and their development in the Middle East, North Africa and Asia.
