AMMAN- President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika is one of the first leaders having worked for the strengthening of the women’s socio-professional position and the promotion of their political rights, affirmed Thursday in Amman Leila Tayeb, member of the Council of the Nation.
“Since he was elected at the country’s presidency, President Bouteflika placed women and the national reconciliation at the centre of his action programme’s priorities,” said Tayeb in a speech delivered, ?on behalf of the Algerian parliamentary delegation participating at Women in Parliaments Global Forum, citing the different programmes and strategies initiated by the head of State in favour of women, including the national strategy of women’s promotion and integration, the five-year programme for the promotion of rural women and the national strategy of fight against violence against women.
The head of the Algerian delegation said that such initiatives “had a positive impact on the situation of women, notably concerning their presence in the decision-making circles, enshrined by the Constitution in 2008, by increasing their chances to reach the different elected assemblies.”
Concerning the principle of gender equality in the political field, Tayeb insisted on President Bouteflika’s steps aimed at enshrining this principle, through the strengthening and updating of the legal arsenal in favour of women.?
