Coronavirus: 140 new cases, 98 recoveries and 8 deaths in last 24h

ALGIERS- One hundred and forty (140) new confirmed cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19), 98 recoveries and 8 deaths were recorded over the last 24 hours in Algeria, said, Sunday in Algiers, the spokesman of the Scientific Committee for Monitoring the Coronavirus pandemic evolution, Dr Djamel Fourar.

The total number of confirmed cases increased 11,771, or 26.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, that of deaths at 845 while the number of the patients who recovered rose to 8422, said Dr. Fourar, during the daily press briefing on the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new cases of death have been recorded in Laghouat, Mascara, Sidi Bel-Abbès, Bouira, Sétif, Batna, M'Sila and Adrar, detailed Dr. Fourar, noting that people aged 65 and over account for 66% of total deaths.

Moreover, 29 provinces registered rates lower than the national rate, while 16 others did not record any new cases in the last 24 hours.
The number of patients who benefited from the current treatment protocol (based on Hydroxy-chloroquine) amounted to 25,422, including 10,111 cases confirmed by virological tests (PCR) and 15,311 cases suspected according to indications from imaging and CT, continued Dr. Fourar, adding that 41 patients are currently in intensive care units.
