Coronavirus: 441 new cases, 311 recoveries, six deaths in last 24h

ALGIERS- A total of 441 new confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), 311 recoveries and six deaths have been reported over the past 24 hours in Algeria, the spokesman of the scientific committee for monitoring the progress of the coronavirus pandemic, Dr Djamel Fourar, said Sunday in Algiers.

The number of confirmed cases in Algeria since the outset of the outbreak amounts to 15 941 (36 per 100,000 inhabitants) and that of deaths to 952 while the number of recovered patients has reached 11 492, Dr Fourar said in his daily briefing on the progress of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He pointed out that people aged 60 years old and above account for 75 % of the death toll.
Thirty-one provinces have been below the national rate (in Covid-19 cases), while 12 others have recorded no positive cases over the past 24 hours.

According to the health official, 15 provinces recorded between one and five cases and 21 others reported more than six cases each. Dr Fourar added that 53 patients are still under intensive care.
