Coronavirus: 475 new cases, 210 recoveries, nine deaths in last 24h

ALGIERS- A total of 475 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), 210 recoveries and nine fatalities have been recorded over the past 24 hours in Algeria, the spokesman of the scientific committee for monitoring the progress of the coronavirus pandemic, Dr Djamel Fourar, said Sunday in Algiers.

The number of confirmed cases in Algeria since the outset of the outbreak amounts to 16 879 (38 per 100,000 inhabitants) and that of deaths to 968 while the number of recovered patients has reached 12 094, Dr Fourar said in his daily briefing on the progress of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He pointed out that people aged 60 years old and over account for 75 % of the death toll.

Thirty-four provinces have been below the national rate (in Covid-19 cases), while 10 others have recorded no positive cases over the past 24 hours.

According to the health official, 10 provinces recorded between one and five cases and 22 others reported more than six cases each.
Dr Fourar added that 55 patients are still under intensive care.
