ALGIERS - Fifty-one hundred and fifty-four (554) new confirmed cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19), 441 recoveries and 12 deaths were recorded over the last 24 hours in Algeria, said Wednesday in Algiers the spokesman of the Scientific Committee for monitoring the Coronavirus pandemic evolution, Dr Djamel Fourar.
The total number of confirmed cases thus amounts to 20,770, i.e. 1.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 24 hours. The number of deaths rose to 1,040 while the number of patients who recovered is 14,792, Dr Fourar, told the daily press briefing devoted to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Fourar also said that 73% of deaths are within the age category of 60 and over.
In addition, 31 provinces reported a rate below the national average, while 7 provinces did not report any new positive cases during the last 24 hours, while 18 others registered between 1 and 5 cases.
23 provinces recorded more than 6 cases each. In addition, 56 patients are currently in intensive care units, said Dr Fourar.
