International Rally of Algeria kicks off in Ghardaia

GHARDAIA (Algeria)- The first stage of the fifth International Rally of Algeria "Challenge Sahari" (Auto Moto), over a distance of 280 km, kicked off in the Seb Seb (50 Km south of Ghardaia), and will run through the desert area of El-Meniaa, in the shape of three rings (three stages of 180 km, 120 km and 135 km).

The caravan will subsequently return to Ghardaia for the fifth and ultimate stage of 280 km, according to a plan established by the organizers.

About forty teams are taking part in this fifth edition of the Challenge Sahari Rally, competing along more than 1000 Km of sandy tracks and dunes in five stages (Ghardaia-El Meniaa-Ghardaia), the organizers said.

Organized by the Algerian Federation of Motorsport, in collaboration with "Sahara Event," the rally is a "real party for the enthusiasts of dune and sand motorsports," according to an organizing member.

The competing teams, from host country Algerian, Libya, Tunisia, Spain, Portugal and France, will cross one thousand kilometres in four days in the desert of Ghardaia using the OWAKA tracking system."
