Introducing English in primary education, challenge met by Algerian State

APS - 21 September 2022

DJANET (Algeria)- The introduction of English in primary education (third grade) as from the school year 2022-2023 has been a challenge the State has taken to allow pupils learning this universal language, the minister of National Education, Abdelhakim Belaabed, said Wednesday.

Belaabed made the statement in the southern province of Djanet, where he kicked off the school year 2022-2023 from Lalla Fatma N'Soumer primary education facility.

He said the ministry had "made all human and material resources available to meet the challenge of teaching English language in the third level of primary education."

He added that English teaching in primary schools will be extended to the fourth and fifth primary grades.

"Training sessions for English teachers will be held regularly for a continuous improvement of the teaching of the language."

Belaabed called on all education staff to "combine efforts to meet the challenge of English language teaching," especially teachers.
