MALMO-"Their Algeria" movie directed by the French-Algerian Lina Soualem won the Special Jury Prize for the feature film competition at the Arab Film Festival in Malmo (Sweden), which wrapped up Sunday, announced the organizers.
"Their Algeria" (2020), an Algerian-French-Qatari production, tells the story of Lina Soualem's grandparents Mebrouk and Aicha, separated after more than 62 years of married life, by diving into the memory of the first Algerian migrants in France.
In addition, the Tunisian film "The Man who sold his skin" directed by Tunisian Kaouther Ben Hania, which was on the final list of nominations for the Oscars for best international film this year, won the award for best feature film.
Nearly 40 films from 23 countries participated in the 11th Malmo Arab Film Festival.
