ALGIERS-Palestine’s President, Mahmoud Abbas, on Tuesday ended his three-day state visit to Algeria, during which he met with the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who stressed that Algeria "works to place the Palestinian issue at the heart of priorities of the Arab summit scheduled in Algiers next March.”
As we prepare to host the forthcoming Arab Summit it is deemed necessary to actively work to place the Palestinian cause at the heart of the priorities of this important event, said President Tebboune at a joint press conference with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who is on a state visit to Algeria.
President Tebboune said that the "crystallization of a unified and common position on supporting the rights of the Palestinian people through collective commitment to the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Palestinian counterpart at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, Tebboune said that "I am committed after approval from President Abu Mazen to bring together all the Palestinian belligerents in Algiers as soon as possible, as part of Algeria's efforts to tighten the Palestinian ranks through the enshrinement of Palestinian unity.
“I hope that this event will be the prelude to the Arab unity to which we aspire through the Arab summit Algeria will host next March,” he continued.
The head of state said that Algeria “seeks to address divisions splitting the Arab world.”
“I hope that the upcoming Algiers summit will unify Arab ranks, with the Palestinian cause at the top of the priorities,” said President Tebboune.
"The Palestinian cause, which is at the center of the conflict in the Middle East, must become a central cause," he said, stressing that "the restoration of peace in the Middle East depends on the establishment of the State of Palestine based on the borders of 67, with Al-Quds as its capital.”
"Loyal to the glorious revolutionary history of Algeria and the unwavering commitment of all the Algerian people to supporting the just Palestinian cause in all circumstances, and as part of the implementation of relevant resolutions of the Arab League, the Algerian state has decided to grant a check worth one hundred million dollars (US$100 million) to our brother, His Excellency Abu Mazen, President of the Palestinian State and the Palestine Liberation Organization," said President Tebboune.
