Green economy: Environment Ministry supports 400 project holders

APS - 23 May 2021

ALGIERS-The Ministry of Environment currently supports more than 400 project holders who seek to implement their innovative ideas, a ministry official told APS.

The ministry has installed an internal unit to inform project holders owners of startups and microenterprises in the field of environment about the necessary procedures.

Since its installation in 2020, the unit has received more than 400 files and currently seeks to support project holders.

"The development of circular and green economies is the key goal of the ministry's approach," said the head of the unit Larbi Réda Youyou.

The applicants' projects relate to the management, collection, storing and recycling of organic waste into compost, construction waste (inert waste), and those with high added value such as waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and glass.

They also focus on innovative ideas in the areas of communication, digital platforms devoted to environment, air quality, biodiversity, agro-ecology, urban sanitation, wastewater and eco-tourism, said the unit head.

After filling out a form on the website of the Ministry, the unit members receive the project holders twice a month (the second and last Thursday of each month).

They benefit from the advice of experts on the timeliness of their projects under the sectoral strategy. The unit also facilitates contacts with relevant parties so that they can implement their projects, said Youyou.

Funding, industrial land, unfamiliarity with administrative procedures and agencies in charge of managing projects and the lack of technical expertise for the finalization of projects are the main problems faced by project holders.
